Trieste, 31 ottobre 2017 – Si è svolta oggi presso lo stabilimento di Sestri Ponente (Genova) la cerimonia di impostazione della prima di tre navi da crociera che Fincantieri sta costruendo per Virgin Voyages, brand del Gruppo Virgin e nuovo operatore del comparto crocieristico.
Alla presenza del Presidente della Regione Liguria, Giovanni Toti, del sindaco di Genova, Marco Bucci, e altre autorità, hanno preso parte alla cerimonia Richard Branson, fondatore di Virgin, Tom McAlpin, President e CEO di Virgin Voyages, e, per Fincantieri, Alberto Maestrini, Direttore Generale.
Le nuove unità, che saranno consegnate rispettivamente nel 2020, 2021 e nel 2022, avranno circa 110.000 tonnellate di stazza lorda, una lunghezza di 278 metri, una larghezza di 38, e saranno dotate di oltre 1.400 cabine in grado di ospitare a bordo più di 2.700 passeggeri, assistiti da un equipaggio di 1.150 persone per garantire lo stile distintivo di Virgin.
Queste navi si caratterizzeranno per il design originale e un’elevata complessità, nonché per una gamma di idee e soluzioni di progettazione altamente innovative, in particolar modo in relazione al recupero energetico e al limitato impatto ambientale. Le unità saranno infatti dotate di un sistema di produzione dell’energia elettrica da circa 1 MW che utilizza il calore di scarto dei motori diesel. Il risultato è quindi un progetto in grado di distinguere Virgin Voyages nel panorama crocieristico mondiale.

DRY DOCK WORKS START IN GENOA ON THE FIRST SHIP FOR VIRGIN VOYAGES

Trieste, 31 October 2017 – The keel laying ceremony of the first of three new cruise ships that Fincantieri is building for Virgin Voyages (part of Virgin Group) was held today in Sestri Ponente (Genoa).
At the presence of the President of the Liguria Region, Giovanni Toti, the mayor of Genoa, Marco Bucci, and other authorities, the ceremony was attended by Richard Branson, founder of Virgin, Tom McAlpin, President and CEO of Virgin Voyages, and for Fincantieri by Alberto Maestrini, General Manager.
Each ship will weigh about 110,000 gross tons, be 278 meters long and 38 wide, with delivery scheduled for 2020, 2021 and 2022 respectively. The ships will feature over 1,400 guest cabins that can host more than 2,700 passengers, accompanied by 1,150 crew members on board to deliver the famed Virgin service.
These ships will stand out for original design and craftsmanship. They will include some highly innovative ideas and design solutions, notably for energy recovery, reducing the overall environmental impact. For example, they will be equipped with an energy production system of approximately 1 MW, which uses the diesel engine’s waste heat. The result is, therefore, a project which distinguishes Virgin Voyages in the worldwide cruise scenery.
