Trieste, 13 gennaio 2017 – Fincantieri, uno dei maggiori gruppi navalmeccanici e numero uno al mondo per diversificazione e innovazione, si è aggiudicata un contratto con le Forze Armate di Malta, per l’ammodernamento di P61,un pattugliatore offshore realizzato oltre 10 anni fa da Fincantieri.
A firmare il contratto sono stati il Brigadier Jeffrey Curmi, Capo delle Forze Armate Maltesi e Gian Battista Corbetta, Responsabile dell’Ente Maintenance, Refitting Overhaul & Conversion della Naval Services Business Unit di Fincantieri.
Gli interventi di ammodernamento, che prevedono la manutenzione complessiva di molti dei sistemi di bordo, sono finalizzati a migliorare notevolmente la capacità reattiva dell’unità. I lavori, del valore di circa 7 milioni di euro, prenderanno avvio nel secondo trimestre del 2017 in Italia, nello stabilimento Fincantieri di Muggiano (La Spezia) e dureranno circa 6 mesi.
Con una lunghezza di oltre 53 metri il pattugliatore P61 è stato costruito e consegnato dallo stabilimento Fincantieri di Muggiano alle Forze Armate di Malta nel 2005 e deriva dall’evoluzione del progetto della classe dei pattugliatori “Diciotti”, unità costruite da Fincantieri per la Guardia Costiera Italiana. Al termine dei lavori la nave sarà ammodernata e con un considerevole prolungamento della vita operativa.

FINCANTIERI TO UPGRADE P61, AN OFFSHORE PATROL VESSEL OF THE ARMED FORCES OF MALTA

Trieste, January 13, 2017 – Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups and number one by diversification and innovation, was awarded the contract by the Armed Forces ofMalta for the upgrading of P61, an Offshore Patrol Vessel, built by Fincantieri over 10 years ago.
The contract was signed by BrigadierJeffrey Curmi, Commander of the Armed Forces of Malta, and Gian Battista Corbetta,Head of Maintenance, Refitting Overhaul & Conversionof Fincantieri’s Naval Services Business Unit.
The upgrading activities, which provide for the overall of many of the ship board systems are aimed at improving the reaction capability of the unit. The works, which are estimated at 7 million Euro, are scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2017 in Italy, in the Fincantieri shipyard of Muggiano (La Spezia), and will last about 6 months.
Offshore Patrol Vessel P61 is over 53 meters long and was built and delivered by Fincantieri’s shipyard of Muggiano to the Armed Forces of Malta in 2005. It is a modified variant of the “Diciotti” Class Patrol Boat, built by Fincantieri for the Italian Coast Guard. At the end of the refit, the vessel will be given a new lease of life with a significant extension to its operating life
