E’ la quarta unità per Viking Ocean Cruises
Trieste, 15 Dicembre 2016 – È stata varata oggi presso lo stabilimento di Ancona “Viking Sun”, la quarta di una serie di sei navi da crociera che la società armatrice Viking Ocean Cruises ha ordinato a Fincantieri. Ora prenderà il via la fase di allestimento degli interni che porterà alla consegna prevista nell’autunno del 2017.
Il momento del varo è stato preceduto dalla tradizionale e beneaugurante “coin ceremony”, che consiste nel saldare un dollaro d’argento sull’ultimo ponte della nave, secondo un antico costume marinaro.
Madrina della cerimonia è stata Yi Lou, Vice President of China Merchant Bank Financial Leasing.

Alla cerimonia erano presenti per l’armatore Torstein Hagen, fondatore e Presidente di Viking Ocean Cruises mentre per Fincantieri tra gli altri, Giovanni Stecconi, Direttore del cantiere.
“Viking Sun”, come le unità gemelle, si posizionerà nel segmento di mercato di unità di piccole dimensioni. Avrà infatti una stazza lorda di circa 47.800 tonnellate, sarà dotata di 465 cabine e potrà ospitare a bordo 930 passeggeri, con una capacità di accoglienza totale di oltre 1.400 persone, compreso l’equipaggio.
La nave è stata progettata da architetti e ingegneri navali di grande esperienza, tra cui un team di interior design della Smc Design di Londra, e dello studio Rottet di Los Angeles. “Viking Sun” sarà costruita secondo le più recenti normative in tema di navigazione e fornita dei più moderni sistemi di sicurezza, compreso il “Safe return to port”. Sarà inoltre dotata delle più avanzate tecnologie per la riduzione dell’impatto ambientale e per il risparmio energetico.
La prima unità della serie, “Viking Star”, è stata costruita dallo stabilimento di Marghera e consegnata nella primavera del 2015, la seconda, “Viking Sea” ha preso il mare dal cantiere di Ancona a marzo di quest’anno, dove anche la terza unità, “Viking Sky”, entrerà in servizio all’inizio del 2017.
Fincantieri ha costruito dal 1990 ad oggi 75 navi da crociera, mentre altre 26 unità sono in costruzione o di prossima realizzazione negli stabilimenti del gruppo.

FINCANTIERI: “VIKING SUN” LAUNCHED IN ANCONA
It will be the fourth unit for Viking Ocean Cruises
Trieste, December 15, 2016 – “Viking Sun”, the fourth of six cruise ships Viking Ocean Cruises has ordered from Fincantieri, has been launched today at the shipyard in Ancona. Interior fittings will now begin, leading the vessel to its delivery, scheduled in autumn 2017.
The launching was introduced by the traditional and well-wishing “coin ceremony”, consisting, according to an ancient maritime tradition, in welding a silver dollar on the last deck of the ship. Godmother of the ceremony was Yi Lou, Vice President of China Merchant Bank Financial Leasing.
The ceremony was attended for the shipowner by Torstein Hagen, founder and Chairman of Viking Ocean Cruises, while Fincantieri was represented among others by Giovanni Stecconi, director of the shipyard.
“Viking Sun”, as its sister ships, will be positioned in the small cruise ship segment. In fact, with a gross tonnage of about 47,800 tons, it will have 465 cabins with accommodation for 930 passengers, with a total capacity of over 1,400 people, including the crew.
The ship has been designed by experienced naval architects and engineers, including an interior design team of London-based SMC Design, and Los Angeles-based Rottet Studios. “Viking Sun” will be built according to the latest navigation regulations and equipped with the most modern safety systems, including the “Safe return to port”. Furthermore, it will feature the most advanced technologies for reducing the environmental impact and for energy saving.
The first of the series, “Viking Star”, has been built at the shipyard in Marghera and delivered in spring 2015, the second, “Viking Sea”, took the sea from the shipyard in Ancona this year in March, the same shipyard where the third unit, “Viking Sky”, will enter into service at the beginning of 2017.
Fincantieri has built 75 cruise ships from 1990 to today, while other 26 are currently being designed or built in the Group’s yards.
