Cresce l’impegno del gruppo nella gara per il programma Future Frigates – SEA 5000 della Marina australiana
Trieste, 16 dicembre 2016 – Fincantieri, uno dei maggiori gruppi cantieristici al mondo, quest’anno preselezionata per la gara del programma Future Frigates – SEA 5000 che prevede la costruzione di 9 fregate di futura generazione per la Royal Australian Navy (RAN), ha costituito una società ad hoc, Fincantieri Australia, e a breve inaugurerà la propria sede a Canberra.
Chairman della società è stato designato Dario Deste, affiancato da Mark Purcell (vedi note biografiche di entrambi in calce). Fincantieri Australia gestirà ora pienamente l’importante fase di partecipazione al processo di valutazione attualmente in corso e sarà impegnata al fianco del governo locale, delle principali società attive in Australia nel comparto della cantieristica e dell’indotto, e altri attori di rilievo nell’ambito del programma delle fregate che saranno realizzate ad Adelaide, nel sud del Paese.
Fincantieri Australia si avvarrà di personale tecnico altamente qualificato e di risorse reclutate in loco, coadiuvati da uno staff selezionato nel network globale del gruppo Fincantieri.
Dario Deste, Chairman di Fincantieri Australia, ha dichiarato: “Il nostro impegno in questo progetto sarà totale. Siamo convinti che il modello di fregata FREMM che presentiamo sia un prodotto assolutamente all’avanguardia, e anche di poter far valere la forza di un gruppo leader di mercato come il nostro. Siamo molto soddisfatti della squadra che abbiamo creato, e tutti coloro che parteciperanno avranno un ruolo importante. Una menzione di riguardo tra quelli che si sono uniti a noi va a Mark Purcell la cui esperienza costituirà di certo un punto di forza molto significativo”.

DARIO DESTE – CHAIRMAN DI FINCANTIERI AUSTRALIA (note biografiche)
Nato a Roma il 16 maggio 1960, è sposato con tre figli. Ha frequentato l’Accademia navale a Livorno (1979-1983).
Alla fine del 1983 è stato selezionato per partecipare al “United States Naval Aviation Program”, diventando aviatore navale – di elicotteri e di aircraft ad ala fissa – nel 1985.
Ha prestato servizio nella Marina Militare nazionale come pilota navale di diverse unità e presso diverse sedi. È stato anche impiegato in numerose missioni della NATO.
Nel 1991 ha cominciato la carriera dirigenziale nel settore privato, dove ha ricoperto ruoli di vertice in Italia presso i maggiori gruppi industriali del Paese, come Fiat, Beretta e Finmeccanica.
Nel 2007 entra in Fincantieri. Attualmente è Amministratore delegato di Fincantieri Marine Systems North America, controllata di Fincantieri negli Stati Uniti.
MARK PURCELL – SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT DI FINCANTIERI AUSTRALIA (note biografiche)
Ha conseguito un master in studi economici, scientifici e della difesa; è membro onorario dell’Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology e dell’Engineers Australia e diplomato presso l’Australian Institute of Company Directors.
Ha prestato servizio nella Marina australiana per trent’anni, fino a raggiungere il grado di Rear Admiral e l’incarico di Head of Maritime Systems del Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), ente del Dipartimento della Difesa australiano.
Viene designato Senior Vice President di Fincantieri Australia all’atto di costituzione della società, dopo aver osservato 12 mesi di post separation period dal suo precedente incarico presso il CASG.

The commitment of the group increases for the bid of the Future Frigates – SEA 5000 programme for the Royal Australian Navy
Trieste, 16 December 2016 – Fincantieri, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding groups and short-listed by the Australian Government to bid to design and build nine, new frigates for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN), has established its local company, Fincantieri Australia, and will open a new Australian headquarters in Canberra soon.
Mr Dario Deste has been designated Chairman of Fincantieri Australia and he will be supported by former Rear Admiral, Mr Mark Purcell (biographical notes of both below).
Mr Deste said Fincantieri Australia will now manage the important phase of the shipbuilder’s participation in the competitive evaluation process for the SEA 5000 Future Frigates programme.
“Fincantieri’s commitment to this project will be total and we will deploy all of the company’s strengths as a market leader.
“The FREMM Frigate we are offering is an absolute cutting-edge product.
“The company will engage with Government, businesses involved in the Australian shipbuilding industry and the supply chain, and other key players with a stake in the construction of the frigates in Adelaide, South Australia.
“Fincantieri Australia will be resourced with senior technical and other personnel recruited locally in Australia and drawn from Fincantieri’s global network of naval ship building executives.
“We are very happy with the team assembled so far and all of the people who will take part in with the team assembled so far and all of the people who will take part in bidding for this significant naval project will have an important role.
“I make particular mention of former Rear Admiral Mark Purcell, who has joined the team and whose experience will certainly be a very significant point of strength for Fincantieri”, Mr Deste said.

DARIO DESTE – CHAIRMAN, FINCANTIERI AUSTRALIA (biographical note)
He was born in Rome, Italy on May 16, 1960. He is married with a daughter and two sons. He attended the Italian Naval Academy in Livorno (1979-1983).
At the end of 1983, he was selected to participate in the United States Naval Aviation Program. He became a Naval Aviator – both helicopter and fixed wing aircraft – in 1985.
He served as an Italian naval pilot on board various ships and naval bases. He was also deployed abroad for an extensive period of time to participate in principal NATO operations.
In 1991, he began his executive career in private industry where he held senior roles in Italy and abroad with major industrial groups such as Fiat, Beretta and Finmeccanica.
In 2007, he joined Fincantieri and is currently Chief Executive Officer of Fincantieri Marine Systems North America, subsidiary of Fincantieri in the United States.
MARK PURCELL – SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, FINCANTIERI AUSTRALIA (biographical note)
He holds Masters degrees in Business, Science and Defence Studies, is a Fellow and Chartered Engineer of both The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology and Engineers Australia, and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
He served the Royal Australian Navy for thirty years. He was a Rear Admiral and served as the Head of Maritime Systems with the Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG).
Mark Purcell was designated Senior Vice President of Fincantieri Australia after completing a post separation period of 12 months from his former position at CASG.
