Trieste, 9 ottobre 2017– Nell’ambito del programma Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) della US Navy, il consorzio di cui fanno parte Fincantieri, tramite la sua controllata Fincantieri Marinette Marine (FMM), e Lockheed Martin Corporation, si è aggiudicato il contratto per la costruzione di una ulteriore LCS della variante “Freedom”, il cui valore rientra nel tetto di costo di 584 milioni di dollari per nave previsto dal Congresso USA.
LCS 27 sarà la quattordicesima nave del programma LCS variante “Freedom”, uno dei principali di costruzione navale per la Marina degli Stati Uniti. Fincantieri e Lockheed Martin sono impegnate a pieno ritmo nella produzione e ad oggi hanno consegnato cinque navi alla US Navy, di cui l’ultima, “Little Rock” (LCS 9), il 26 settembre scorso. Ci sono attualmente sette unità già in diversi stadi di costruzione nel sito di Marinette, l’unico cantiere navale del Midwest, e altre due a seguire che completeranno il programma.
Il programma LCS è stato assegnato nel 2010 a FMM, nell’ambito della partnership tra Fincantieri e Lockheed Martin, leader mondiale nel settore della difesa. La variante “Freedom” costituisce una nuova generazione di navi multiruolo di medie dimensioni, progettate per attività di sorveglianza e difesa costiera, per operazioni in acque profonde e per diversi tipi di missioni nell’ambito della difesa da minacce di tipo “asimmetrico” quali mine, sottomarini diesel silenziosi e navi di superficie veloci.2 LCS del programma sono state impiegate con successo nel Pacifico occidentale, la terza e la quarta sono state consegnate rispettivamente nel 2015 e nel 2016.
LCS PROGRAM: FINCANTIERI TO BUILD LCS 27
Trieste, 9 October 2017 – Within the Littoral Combat Ship Program (LCS), the US Navy has awarded the consortium consisting of Fincantieri, through its subsidiary Fincantieri Marinette Marine (FMM), and Lockheed Martin Corporation, a contract to build an additional LCS. The contract value is under the 2017 congressional cost cap of 584 million dollars per ship.
LCS 27 will be the 14th ship of the LCS Program Freedom-variant, one of the US Navy’s main shipbuilding programs. The Fincantieri and Lockheed Martin team is currently in full-rate production and has delivered five ships to the U.S. Navy to date. The last one, “Little Rock” (LCS 9), was delivered on September 26. There are currently seven ships in various stages of construction at Fincantieri Marinette Marine, the Midwest’s only naval shipyard, with two more in long-lead production.
The construction contract for the LCS Program Freedom-variant was awarded to FMM in 2010, within the partnership by Lockheed Martin, global leader in the defense sector. It relates to a new generation of mid-sized multirole vessels, designed for surveillance activities and coastal defense for deep water operations as well as capabilities for addressing asymmetrical threats such as mines, silent diesel submarines and fast surface ships. 2 LCS Freedom-variant vessels have been successfully deployed to the Western Pacific, the third and fourth have been delivered respectively in 2015 and 2016.
